Life is a Struggle, or Is it?
Life is a Struggle, or is it?
The Struggle is Real – can be found on a tee-shirt and other signage delineating that life is really hard work and if you work hard enough there can be a reward later. However, how you experience your life is not because of the things that are happening, but your response to what’s happening.
Like most people, I grew up with the concept of trying to prove my value through hard work and struggle. It has only been in recent years that I understood this idea to be, at best, self-defeating. How you experience your life is more about your expectations and how you choose to focus. Your focus, or your perspective is how you see things. For example, a person losing a job could set them on a path to a career opportunity that is more fulfilling and aligned with their interests. A failed relationship, while difficult at first, can make way for a better more satisfying one. I think about what seemed like a tragedy when I left my computer containing all my important information on a subway train. Once I determined that it was lost for good and after my initial melt-down, I realized the only thing I could do was to move forward in securing the data and getting a new computer. Once I discovered there was life after losing my precious computer I emerged stronger, more empowered and feeling like I can do anything I put my mind toward. Life challenges or situations, if you will, can teach you and strengthen your resolve for choosing how to experience it. You can experience defeat, or you can take charge by releasing your fear and choosing to live to the fullest. Life is a journey and you get to choose how to experience it. You can have a bumpy ride by resisting and struggling through it, or you can learn to just go with the flow. Your true power is in your perspective. Life is a struggle if that is how you choose to see it – but why would you?

What is Happiness?
Happiness is an emotion. It is the feeling of joy and freedom. When you’re happy you allow the whole fullness of you to become present in every moment. Happiness results from understanding and embracing your value as well as the ability to see value in other people and life situation. Seeing the value in things that are wanted and unwanted is the secret to inner peace and a joyful life. Happy people experience clarity, well-being, and an inner knowing that all is well no matter what is going on out there. Happiness feels like being invincible and that there’s nothing that you can’t Be, Do or Have. (more…)
